These are the massive southern population — the ones that have traveled from Antarctica, not California — and they enter the fjord to breed, birth, and nurse in warm protected waters. The Golfo Dulce is one of only a handful of tropical fjords on earth, and its protected geometry concentrates whale activity in ways the open Pacific never can.
