October at Arenal is better than its reputation, and significantly better than October on the Pacific coast. Because the Arenal basin is Caribbean-influenced, the worst of the wet season has already passed by October — July was the peak, not this month. Rain remains consistent but morning clearing windows become more frequent, the lava field trails are increasingly accessible, and the partial volcano views that began appearing in September now arrive more reliably before 8am. The Cano Negro boat tour is still excellent and the Balsa River remains at productive rafting levels.
