Practical Intel

Know Before You Go

01
Strict luggage limits apply on all seaplane transfers

The local floatplanes enforce a rigid weight limit of 20kg (44lbs) for checked baggage and 5kg (11lbs) for hand luggage. Excess baggage fees are steep, and overweight bags are frequently delayed and sent on later flights.

02
Monsoon winds can cause flight groundings

During the wet season (especially May and November), heavy winds and sudden squalls can ground seaplane operations for several hours. Ensure you have ample buffer time before your international flight home.

03
Reef-safe sunscreen is legally mandated

Maldivian corals are highly sensitive to chemical bleaching. It is illegal to use standard sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate. Pack only certified mineral-based, reef-safe sunscreen for ocean swimming.
