Drive Highway 1 south past Big Sur valley to the Gorda area. The driveway is a steep gravel climb that is easy to miss after dark. Highway 1 is subject to frequent winter slides and closures, which can cut off access from the north or south.
The famous on-site sushi bar has very limited seating and operates on a first-come, first-served basis for overnight guests. Check in early and head straight to the lodge to secure your dining slot.
Standard yurts do not have private bathrooms or showers. You must walk outside along gravel pathways to a central bathhouse, which is cold and dark at night. Canvas walls offer little sound isolation from wind and neighboring guests.
