The Honest Pitch

Cambodia's Cardamom jungle is a spectacular, high-adrenaline adventure corridor, but visiting during the summer monsoon (May to October) brings extreme rainfall peaking at 25 inches in September. This turns rivers into raging torrents and floods walking trails, rendering outdoor activities impossible.

Severe Summer Monsoon Flooding

The Cardamom range is subject to massive monsoonal deluges from May to October, peaking in September at over 25 inches. Rivers flood rapidly, trails are waterlogged, and forest access becomes highly compromised.

Dry Winter Canopy Access

The dry winter season (November–April) brings warm, sunny days around 86°F and low humidity, offering ideal conditions for canopy ziplining, river kayaking, and gibbon tracking.

The Reality Check

01

Leech-proof socks are mandatory in summer

The humid forest floor is home to active ground and tiger leeches, peaking during wet monsoonal months. Wear high, tightly woven leech-proof socks over your trousers when trekking valley corridors.

Wear High Leech-Proof Socks
02

Consult a travel doctor for malaria prep

The Cardamom Mountains are a remote, dense wilderness where malaria and dengue remain active. Speak to a physician about malaria prophylaxis, wear long sleeves during evening deck dining, and use high-strength DEET.

Begin Malaria Prophylaxis Daily
03

Pack in water-resistant dry bags

Whether arriving by zipline, boat, or trekking under humidity, moisture is constant. Pack clothing, passports, and cameras in watertight dry bags inside your backpack to protect from sudden tropical squalls.
